What I've Learned

I haven't been a mom for very long, but I've already learned so many things about mommyhood, about babies, and about myself. I am by no means an expert on anything, but all you moms out there... raise your hand if you agree with any of these.

{Top: Forever 21 (old), Necklace: J.Crew, Baby Dress: Carter's}

Things that I've learned as a new mom:

- How to hold my pee for long periods of time while my baby sleeps on me for fear that the slightest movement will wake her and my hour long effort of coercing her to sleep would have been for nothing.

- Having a baby is a great way to get toned arms.

- How to do things with one hand, while holding the baby in the other.

- I can go a max of 5 days without washing my hair before I start to look like a crazy person.

- I really love yoga pants.

- A tiny baby can create so much laundry.

- I can function as an almost-human with 3 hours of sleep. Just don't ask me any complex questions or make me do things that require a lot of thought.

- How willing I am to purchase every sleeper and bouncer product available in hopes that it will help baby girl sleep better.

- How much fun it is to dress baby girl... and yes I am one of those moms that will dress my baby like me. She clearly loves polka dots as much as I do. Don't judge.

- How much I could love someone. They say you don't realize how much love you could give to someone else until you have a baby, and they're right. I love my baby with every ounce of my body. My sweet little family makes me feel like the happiest and luckiest girl.

I'm raising my hand!!! The photos of you and her, and the last one of the whole family, are just awesome. You're just beaming with pride and excitement! You don't know your body could do all the things it does in prep for a baby, and to keep that baby healthy and happy after she's born. And the love thing. Yea. Can't believe how much you could love someone. I *do* believe she loves polka dots :).

Kelly said...

Aww, this is adorable. I am in awe of new moms - especially with the lack of sleep!

Rachel Lynne said...

She is such a cutie! And gosh you look tiny already! I would never guess a small baby would create so much laundry but now that I think about it, it makes sense!

Alyssa said...

Your little family is so sweet! I can only imagine how much laundry a little baby can make, but I have no doubt she already has the cutest wardrobe ever!

Happiness at Mid Life said...

Such precious photos! It was fun dressing my baby boy too but with a girl the options are just so much cuter. I do no miss the lack of sleep days - my hubby was such a team player and took the night shift so I could get a few more hours of sleep.

Hannah is just the cutest! And you are looking GREAT my friend!

I'm totally with you on the toned arms! I think 5 days was my max for washing hair too. We have been really lucky that B is a really good sleeper but I totally understand wanting every gadget that's going to make her sleep. I get frustrated when it takes me 30 minutes to get him to sleep! I'm spoiled, I know. I really love dressing him up though. Putting "real" clothes on him (instead of just a onesie, for example) KILLS me! He looks like such a little man. It's my fave. And oooh yes the love....It's so true how everyone tells you it will happen and there's just no way to imagine it without actually going through it. It's definitely been my favorite part of mommyhood. Just thinking about him makes me SO happy.

I couldn't agree more with what you wrote. All of those things hold true for me as a mom too. Yes the laundry and lack of sleep is huge but at the end of the day you see her face and it is all worth it.

Frannie Pantz said...

I haven't had a newborn in a LONG time (although that's about to change very quickly!), but I do remember all of these to be true. And the last one will always be true--with every child you have. And the great part about kids--you will learn even more lessons every day for the rest of your life being a mother. My oldest is 13 and he is still teaching me lessons.

I can only raise my hand based on second-hand information for much of those points, but I know they are true. Especially the last one. It's startling...and when I stopped to think that perhaps that's how my parents felt about me, it was, I don't know...humbling (maybe?) to think that someone felt that way about me. Pretty cool!
