Here are my tips when it comes to shopping for jewelry, specifically necklaces:
1. Have a plan. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you are not used to buying jewelry. There are so many options to choose from. Have an idea in your head of what you're looking to find. Are you looking for a certain color? Are you shopping for a particular outfit or occasion?
2. Stay focused. Stores like Forever 21 have so many great accessories and at such low prices that it's easy to get distracted and overwhelmed. Remain focused at the task at hand or you may find yourself flustered and leaving empty handed (I've learned this the hard way). And don't let those crazy teenagers push you around!
3. Don't be afraid. Go outside your comfort zone. This is a great opportunity for you to try out that new color or new trend without committing to something that might break your wallet or take over your whole outfit.
Don't have an idea of where to start? Think about what colors dominate your closet. Is it mostly darks? Brights? All pink (I wish)? Get yourself a necklace that easily goes with the majority of your clothing. If you have a lot of darks or neutrals, consider a brightly colored piece. You want your necklace to stand out against your clothing, so go for contrasts in color.

If you have an array of colors in your wardrobe but just want one great new piece of jewelry, try a black or white statement necklace. Black and white are classic colors that won't ever go out of style. You can easily wear them with almost anything you own and all year round.

Your comment about being pushed around by teenagers made me giggle. The only transit accessible F21 in Boston (newburry st.) is always full of little college girls and I get so annoyed by them! Those are some great pieces!

Also, Yi-Chia what kind of necklace would you recommend if most of your shirts have some sort of embellishment near/around the neck?
I would go with a longer necklace. Either a very simple one or something like the first pink one (above), where it's minimal at the top but has more going on towards the bottom either with extra chains or just a pendant!

Great tips, Yi-chia! I agree that it can be so easy to load up at places like F21 that have so much stuff for cheap prices, so you really have to have a plan ahead of time! Even if something is only $5, it's a waste of $5 if you end up buying it and never wearing it!

Yikes, the accessories area at F21 is terrifying! There's so...much..stuff..
I like the inspiration photos, visuals always seem to help more when it comes to talking about colors than just plain old text does. The best shopping tip I can think of is to only buy accessories that you really love, otherwise it's so easy to wind up with a ton of cheap stuff that you don't really care for.

I have never been much of a jewelry gal (I never wear my wedding band or engagement ring for example, and I almost always forget to wear earrings). So this was really helpful. I often get overwhelmed, so your tips will help. Have you ever been in a Charming Charlie's? It's instant panic attack for me!
Great tips you have there! I always have in mind what I'm looking for, or sometimes if I know there's a huge sale somewhere, I just buy items I think will last me more than one season. Though most of my jewellery sometimes gets hidden away in a box, and I only end up wearing it once or twice!

You have such pretty necklaces!!! I try not to buy too much jewelry and only buy good quality necklaces. I tend to wear the same thing especially if i love it. Organizing jewelry is a fail for me. Maybe you can do a post on how to organize your jewelry :)

You mentioned you have your closet basically memorized. For a girl that can't do that- how do you recommend putting together a Wardrobe? Buying pieces that work together to create several different outfits? I find I end up with random'ness and have a hard time making them all come together.
